Just an hour northeast of Chewelah, **Bead Lake** is a peaceful escape nestled in the Colville National Forest. This scenic trail winds through old-growth cedar forests and along the shoreline of the pristine mountain lake, offering year-round opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and even snowshoeing in the winter.

What to Expect
- Lakeshore Hiking: The trail begins at the Bead Lake Ridge Road parking area, following Trail 127 down into the forest before reaching the shoreline.
- Cedar Forest: Begin the hike through a dark cedar forest, eventually reaching the lakeshore.
Secluded Campsites
- 1.0 Mile: The first campsite offers beach access, a fire pit, and stunning lake views.
- 1.5 Miles: The “enchantment campsite,” tucked among towering cedars.
- Additional Sites: Two more sites are scattered along the trail, each with a fire pit.
- Trail Extension: At 4.6 miles, cross Lodge Creek and continue for another 1.1 miles on Trail 127.1 to the end.
Winter Adventures
- Snowshoeing: Snowshoes may be needed depending on conditions, but the trail remains a great winter hike.
- Road Access: Heavy snow can make Bead Lake Ridge Road inaccessible—check conditions with the Newport Ranger Station before heading out.
