More Fresh Tracks. Less Time in the Lift Line.

49° North Mountain Resort is a hidden giant of the Northwest, ready to deliver epic adventures for every kind of snow lover. Spanning more than 2,300 acres of lift-accessed, patrolled terrain, the resort boasts 3 basins, 2 peaks, 7 lifts, 90 marked trails, 1,871 feet of vertical, and multiple terrain parks. With an average annual snowfall of over 300 inches (plus snowmaking!), it’s a powder lover’s dream. Oh, and did we mention it’s home to Washington’s longest high-speed lift? The 1.25-mile ride from base to summit takes just 7 minutes—just about enough time to catch your breath before the next run. For Nordic enthusiasts, the fun doesn’t stop there. The 49° North Nordic Center offers more than 13 kilometers (over 8 miles) of trails for cross-country skiing (classic and skate), snowshoeing, or fat tire biking.

Whether you’re carving wide-open groomers, tackling moguls, floating through the legendary powder of the Selkirk Range, or exploring the infamous tree skiing, 49° North has something for everyone. This is classic Northwest skiing at its best—come see for yourself!

Getting to 49 Degrees North

Fly, drive, and hit the slopes! Spokane International Airport is your best bet for getting close to the action, with flights from major airlines like Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, and United. From there, it’s just over an hour to reach 49° North.

Drive times:

  • Tri-Cities area: About 3.5 hours
  • Missoula: Around 4 hours
  • Seattle: Just over 5 hours
  • Portland: About 6.5 hours
  • Spokane: Just under 1.5 hours

From Spokane:
  • Route 1: Head north on HWY 395 toward Chewelah. Turn right (East) on Main Street to Flowery Trail Road. Follow for 10 miles and look for the 49° North sign.

  • Route 2: Take Argonne Road North to HWY 2. Head west on 211 toward Cusick/Metaline Falls (20 miles), turn left onto HWY 20, then take your next left at the 49° North sign.

From the Canadian Border:
  • Route 1: Take HWY 395 South to Chewelah. Turn left (East) on Main Street to Flowery Trail Road and follow the signs.

  • Route 2: Head south on State Route 20 toward Usk. Turn right (West) onto Flowery Trail Road and follow it to the resort.

Summer on the Mountain

Beat the heat and head to Chewelah Peak! Temperatures on the mountain are usually a refreshing 10 degrees cooler than the valley during summer. A quick note—crews are often out and about with heavy machinery Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so please tread carefully.

Mountain Biking

While the lifts take a summer break, service roads in the West, Central, and East Basins are perfect for biking adventures. The land is open for exploration, but for tips and trail insights, swing by the Ticket Office during business hours.

Huckleberry Picking

Chewelah Peak is *berry heaven*. Huckleberries ripen from mid-July to early August, depending on the weather. You can pick up to **3 gallons** a day under Forest Service rules—just leave the rakes and mechanical gadgets at home. And remember, these berries are for personal enjoyment only—no commercial picking allowed!

Hiking

Most of the snowpack has melted off by early July (though shady spots and higher elevations can hold onto it a bit longer), leaving the ski runs, service roads, and Nordic trails open for hiking. Whether you take an easier pathway like the Alpine Road to Moose Track Corner and onto Huckleberry Ridge, or you head straight up Silver King to Silver Ridge, there’s a route every adventurer.

RVs and Camping

Overnight RV parking is available throughout the winter season, with a limited number of power hookups available in the main parking lot. RV parking without hookups is available in Lot 2. RV hookups are not available at the resort during the off-season, but overnight RV parking and camping is permitted in designated parking lots (Lots 2-4 and the Nordic Center Lot). Overnight stays are limited to 7 consecutive days at a stretch. All spaces are available on a first come, first served basis
